YouTube? More like whotube!

What is it with people posting crap on YouTube? I don’t want to watch you walk down the street with your dog, or talk about utter drivel for 10 minutes in front of the camera. I am not particularly interested in the view of young teenagers on… well anything really, but I guess they just want to be ‘on telly’.

In the good old days before all this cyberspace googlewhack nonsense then the only way you could get out there on video to be seen by other people was to be famous and get on telly, or in your cheesy home videos your dad makes. Now anyone and his dog (and often just the dog) can get their ugly mug seen by tens of thousands of people with just a cheap video camera, hell a camera phone would probably do it nowadays.

So that is one side of the coin, all the drivel that fills up the YouTube servers, but then what about the people watching it? I see videos that look so boring I’d happily eat my own ear off rather than watch them, yet they have 10, 20, 30 thousand views, some have hundreds of thousands of views, for some schoolkid talking about his day??

I can understand the other stuff, don’t get me wrong, I’ll happily spend a few hours watching nasty accidents, people making fools of themselves, and other assorted weird and cool stuff, that deserves airtime, but if you are that bored you need to dig deep into the bowels of the video archive to find someone learning to hop or something then you seriously need to get out and get some fresh air!

Rant over.
