What’s so important?

Don’t you just hate it when people send you emails flagged as ‘high importance’ so that little red exclamation mark appears next to them?

I mean you just know they are going to be anything but important, I’ve had it on emails ranging from pure spam for… questionable pharmaceuticals, but hey that is spam so that is not as annoying, but then people have emailed me with basic questions about things which are flagged as important, or giving me a comment about my site, really mundane stuff that just doesn’t deserve that flag.

It might sound like a little rant (hey I do big and little rants, they both get airtime) but it is so annoying to have someone try and force their email down my throat saying it is really important and then find out it is just an ordinary crappy email, nothing important at all, and yet it is clogging up my neat inbox with that bulging red excalamation mark – stop it people! Important things are last minute changes to projects or appointments that if they get missed will mess something up, or deaths/accidents/really bad news kind of stuff. Your first email to me saying you like the design of my website does not deserve an important flag, and the person who sent me a question with an important flag and parts of your email highlighted in red? I do read my emails so you don’t need the flag, and I can actually read a full email (aren’t I clever?) so I can read your question without you having to bold parts if the email and make them red, I was going to delete your email but I’m grumpy not an ass, so I did answer your question although I did call you all sorts of names as I did it, and I delayed answering for 24 hours too

If I see the important flag and I don’t know you then it’s getting deleted, if I see the important flag and I read it and it is not important, then it is going to the bottom of the queue to be done in a few days time at the earliest just to get my point across (I was in a good mood for the one above).

Oh and if that does happen then the next time you send me an email with that flag it is getting deleted.
